Kirtan (call and response chanting) is a very powerful and joyous practice - the yoga of sound. Suitable for both complete beginners and more experienced chanters, this session will leave you with a feeling of openness and with a connection to yourself and others around you. It really isn't about being a good singer, more about connecting to yourself through the power of mantra. The session will include both traditional chants from ancient yoga scriptures and Native American chants. A wonderful afternoon not to be missed!
Sanskrit (which many of the chants will comprise of) is a vibrational language so just by uttering the sanskrit words, they have a profound healing effect on our physical, mental and emotional state. This will then lead us into Yoga Nidra, the practice of deeply restful wakefulness (although deep sleepfulness may be what happens too). If you haven't experienced Yoga Nidra before then this really is an opportunity not to be missed as Craig is highly skilled and experienced at leading this wonderful practice.
You are welcome to bring anything that makes a noise - shakers, drums, bells etc to the session.
Craig has dedicated his life to studying various forms of yoga, meditation and chanting, including Ashtanga, Iyengar, Satyananda, Baptiste and Forrest styles. He has further deepened his practice and teaching with studies in meditation, Yoga Nidra and chanting as well as in yoga therapy with Yoga Campus and the Yoga Biomedical Trust. He has great love for the traditional in yoga and continues to study Sanskrit and Vedic chanting as well as Vortex Divine Energy Healing.
